Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment
In-clinic Consultations: Dr. Jane Sykes, Dr. Jonathan Dear, and Dr. Erin Lashnits work together with the UC Davis small internal medicine service to ensure the highest level of care for animals with suspected or proven infectious diseases, with an emphasis on fungal diseases including coccidioidomycosis, cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis, and a variety of mold infections. We have extensive experience with administration of traditional antifungal drugs such as fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole, and various formulations of amphotericin B. In addition, we have growing experience with novel antifungal drugs and antifungal drug combinations that are being increasingly used in human patients with refractory disease, and work with our partners to optimize treatment and monitoring for each patient for the best possible outcome. Appointments may be made with any member of our internal medicine team on a referral or non-referral basis, and because we work together, you can be sure you will receive the expertise of our entire infectious disease team.
Drs. Sykes, Dear, and Lashnits offer fee-based consultations with referring veterinarians on a variety of infectious disease problems, but with special emphasis in fungal disease. These can be done by email or using a telemedicine platform. Because of the need for a Veterinary Client Patient Relationship, we do not offer direct consultations with animal owners unless a previous in-person consultation has occurred. If you are an animal owner and would like a consultation, please ask your referring veterinarian to contact the UC Davis service coordinator listed next. If you are a referring veterinarian, please contact Natasha Hansen, service coordinator for the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service, to obtain an Infectious Disease Consultation Form.
